The Australian Pilates Academy method is a conditioning
program that improves muscle control, flexibility,
coordination, and strength. The basic concept of
Pilates conditioning is to increase awareness of
the body as a single integrated unit, to improve
alignment and breathing, and to increase efficiency
of movement. The exercises are based on the principle
that by developing a strong and flexible torso with
a stabilized core (abdominal, back and pelvic muscles),
the whole body can be balanced, aligned and conditioned
for optimal performance.
Some of the many benefits of Pilates include:
Improved Muscular flexibility strength and
range of movement. Particularly of the abdominal
muscles, lower back, hips and buttocks (the
'core muscles' of the body).
Will assist in balancing muscular strength
on both sides of the body and enhanced muscular
control of the back and limbs.
A greater awareness of your posture and improved
stabilisation of the spine.
Aids in prevention of musculoskeletal injuries
and safe rehabilitation of joint and spinal
injuries.
Helps to relieve low back pain and other joint
and muscular related stresses.
Helps relaxation of the shoulders, neck and
upper back.
